What is it about?
Gullevaš/Golgolaš is an exhibition consisting of works by eight artists from Sápmi. Gullevaš means «to belong», golgolaš is a term for a type of itinerant character or a vagabond. The exhibition Gullevaš/Golgolaš examines ideas of home and belonging, of homelessness and outsiderness. The exhibition conveys complex stories told through traditional duodji, painting, textiles, installation, text, film, and sound art.
Gullevaš/Golgolaš has been developed collectively through a long process and has a particular approach to materiality, architecture, recycling, and improvisation. The exhibition appears as a total installation – a peculiar but at the same time homely landscape, which welcomes the audience to listen, look, sit, read, rest, dream, think. The artists in this exhibition are Elina Waage Mikalsen, Katarina Spik Skum, Anders Sunna, Matti Aikio, Olof Marsja, Sigbjørn Skåden, Ken Are Bongo, and Joar Nango.
Gullevaš/Golgolaš is curated by Helga-Marie Nordby, and the exhibition was shown for the first time in Bodø Kunstforening, 10th of May – 23rd of June 2024 as a part of a larger collaborative project with Bymuseet/Nordlandsmuseet, which highlights Sami art during Bodø2024.
